About the scholarship

There are two types of Applied Epi scholarships:

  • Full scholarships: Applied Epi provides services to your team for free

  • Partial scholarships: Applied Epi provides services to your team at a discounted rate

The current round of Applied Epi scholarships open for registration is for partial scholarships for Spanish speaking individuals from low- and middle-income countries. The fee for the partial scholarship seat is $400.00 USD.

A partial scholarship means that the organisation contributes a portion of the costs for the services they receive. They also allow more organisations to benefit, as funding can be extended to support more teams.

Cohorts begin approximately each month, running at various times (mornings, afternoons, and evenings in various time zones). The course is ten sessions of 3.5 hours which run in two formats:

  • Once per week over 10 weeks
  • Twice per week over 5 weeks

Support Desk course tutoring calls can be booked for any time throughout the course, with 24 hours advance notice.

Yes - we love to see multiple people from the same organisation apply as learning together helps to strengthen implementation of R into the workplace beyond the course.

No - as long as you or your organisation have the funds to cover your seat (and the seats of your team members), this will not impact your application or your likelihood of being approved for the scholarship seat.

No, this is entirely up to you and your team members. Consider the benefits of having team members learn together versus the need to maintain your team’s capacity to perform routine activities.

For the current round of partial scholarships, application forms and courses are only available in Spanish. Participants must be able to complete the course in Spanish to be eligible. However, Applied Epi will continue to advertise any new scholarship formats as they become available.

Eligibility

These scholarships are specifically designed to benefit Applied Epi’s core audience: teams working in low-resource settings. Supporting teams in low- or middle-income countries is central to Applied Epi’s mission to advance public health and epidemiology where it is needed most.

If you are in a high-income country, check our other sponsored scholarships list to see if any match your situation (e.g. for low-resource jurisdictions in the USA, sponsored by the US CDC).

Yes, staff or fellows of Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs) may apply for partial scholarship seats, as long as their funding is not from an international organisation.

These scholarships are tailored to support Applied Epi’s core audience—teams actively working in public health and applied epidemiology. The goal is to enhance disease control efforts in low-resource settings by equipping practitioners who directly impact applied epidemiology.

As such, scholarships are not likely to be awarded to students, academic teams, or those focused solely on clinical or research activities. An exception may be if either the FETP or a regional disease prevention office (or similar) is placed within a university.

The scholarships are designed for those in applied epidemiology and public health, ensuring stronger in-system disease control in low-resource settings. Practitioners in these fields have the most impact on applied epidemiology, so other disciplines are not eligible.

We would encourage you to apply, and write about why your work has a direct impact on disease control.

If you work in One Health and can demonstrate the impact of your work on human health, we encourage you to apply.

No. We suggest that you look for internal funding. Please also contact us about enrolling your team in our public or private training courses.

No. We are only offering partial scholarships to individuals that are funded locally, either by themselves or by their work place. If you have funds from an international sponsor such as TEPHINET, CDC, or WHO, please apply for a full price seat when you submit your public cohort registration form. Please contact us for more details.

Application

Applications will be accepted on a continual basis until all scholarship positions are filled. All applicants will be notified if approved for the partial scholarship seats.

Please have each member of your team submit an individual public cohort registration form for the public cohort of their choosing. Make sure they accurately list the organisation and who will be funding the partial scholarship seat.

Due to their classification as high income countries, participants from Chile, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, United States, Spain, or any other high income country are not eligible at this time.

Yes. We are also accepting Spanish-speaking applicants from non-Spanish speaking countries. However, you must be working in a low or middle income country to be eligible.
